Types of coffee machines, grinding and dose
Types of coffee machines
Coffee Plunger
It consists of a pot or “stew pot”. The beverage is extracted when in contact between water and coffee; filtering is done afterwards.
Filter coffee machine
It is a method for brewing coffee which involves pouring water over roasted, ground coffee contained in a filter. Water seeps through the coffee, absorbing its oils and essences, solely under gravity, and then passes through the bottom of the filter. The used coffee grounds are retained in the filter with the liquid falling (dripping) into a collecting vessel such as a pot.
Espresso Coffee Machine
It consists of hot water, around 90º C, which is forced through finely ground coffee to 8-10 atmospheric pressure during 20 – 30 seconds, coming out its flavour and aroma. The basic brewing of such coffee machine is the espresso coffee. It was born in Italy at the beginning of 20th century. It is really common to see such coffee machines in restaurants or coffee shops, although it is also common nowadays in households. Coffees from such coffee machine tend to be really aromatic, fully-bodied and with a great flavour.
The Grinding
The proper grinding is very important to obtain an optimum extraction of coffee flavor and aroma. The amount of grinding is determined by the kind of coffee-maker used, for example:
