Fair Trade Certificate

Quality, Social Responsibility and respect for the environment

Comercio Justo

Since the very beginning, we are focused on the solidarity principles with the coffee growers. In this way, we have strengthened our bonds with the San Isidro Cooperative (Colombia).

The purchase of green coffee and the marketing of the roasted coffee under the Fair Trade certificate makes us work closely together with the coffee growers and their communities.

San Isidro Cooperative

Its main goal is to contribute with the social, economical and cultural development of the coffee growers and their families in order to exert leadership, to foster the individual and familiar growth and to be more productive and respectful with the environment.

The San Isidro Cooperative foments the clean agriculture and trains his partners in the managing of bio fertilizers.

Technical support

The San Isidro Cooperative receives support through the Comité Departamental de Cafeteros in Huila [Association of coffee growers of Huila] with personalized technical support in postharvesting and through the Cooperative “CADEFIHUILA” with the marketing and development of projects.

Coffee commercialization produced by San Isidro Cooperative is carried out by the Huila Coffee Grower’s Cooperative through the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia and Expocafé Ltd.

Environmental contribution

Thanks to the support received by the Comité Departamental de Cafeteros in Huila [Association of coffee growers of Huila], the San Isidro Cooperative has purchased more than 100 acres of wood with the aim of contributing to water services of the region.

Likewise, CENICAFÉ [Coffee research centre] launched a research in which three endangered bid species were found in the wood. That is why the Grupo Asociativo San Isidro have taken some measures to ensure their preservation. On the other hand, they are about to be certified as friends of forests and birds.

Historial Account

In 1979, eight coffee growers from the district San Isidro of the town Acevedo-Huila joined their forces to establish a shop so that the inhabitants did nothave to move to the Acevedo’s municipality to get their supplies.

Six years later, the Grupo Asociativo San Isidro was legally established. It was constituted by 15 partners and their families. Currently, the Cooperative holds 72 members.

Location

It is located at 200 kilometres away from the capital city of Huila region (Neiva).
1º 49 North Latitude - 75º 57 West Longitude

Education

Thanks to different agreements with the town of Acevedo and the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, the physical infrastructure of the San Isidro’s Primary School has been built.

Health

Thanks to the different strategic alliances and the support received by Coffee companies like SUPRACAFÉ, a small hospital could be built in San Isidro, covering the basic necessities: Outpatient Services, Odontology, small procedures and vaccination.

Fair Trade Products

Fair Trade products are commercialized according to the international standards of Fair Trade Labelling Organization International (FLO). That means:

  • Producers/farmers receive a fair price, a stable minimum price guaranteed by FLO.
  • Improvement on working conditions and respect for human rights and the environment: no labour force or child labour, no discrimination, respect for the freedom of association and preservation of the environment.
  • Improvement on living conditions thanks to the premium price used for education, health, etcetera, and a strengthened autonomy of the farmers and producers’ organizations.
  • The guarantee of a “fair” origin of the products through regular controls, paying special attention to their quality: only those products with a high-standard of quality will be certified as Fair Trade.
